The random hit dance track of the year…

Every year there is a what I would call a novelty type dance record that blows up out of nowhere. For 2012 that track was definitely Gangnam Style. Twilight Zone by 2 Unlimited was another. In the late 80’s it was American Soviets by CCCP and it was the sporting event soundtrack of the year. Of course there’s the all time number one stadium dance record of all time Rock-n-Roll by Gary Glitter. And who could forget the Macarena (even though we’d all desperately like to). God only knows why these tracks hit. Records like this went viral even before the days of the internet and the term “viral” was coined. I’m not sure what that record will be for 2013… I think the Harlem Shuffle has come too soon after Gangnam style. It’s being called the “next” Gangnam style which almost certainly means it’s not original enough to be the 2013 track.
